WBA Times / The Andy Stone Saga: Stone traded to Melbourne!
« on: October 05, 2017, 12:08:51 PM »
STUTTGART, Germany: Earlier today, the Black Forest Foxes announced they were considering trading Andy Stone. Bob Weinberg, GM of the Melbourne Meteors, immediately sent 4 private planes, containing almost the entire front office as well as some of Andy Stone's friends from Melbourne, to Germany. One plane contained the entire Meteors bullpen, and three starting pitchers, in case they had to be traded. The planes, painted neon orange and brown, flew into Stuttgart at about 10:00 AM local, just 3 hours after the Foxes made the announcement.

After landing, Weinberg drove to Foxes GM Perry Cooper's office. After entering, he brought the whole pitching staff inside and said "You can have any 2 of these guys".  Imre Maxa and Bob Pérez looked at each other, stunned. All of the pitchers were asked to leave the room as the negotiations started, but Maxa was able to place a listening device.

As the negotiations began, two HMS Concorde passenger jets, the fastest commercial planes available, touched down in Stuttgart. The Stone Faithful, a group of Meteors fans who did not burn their Stone jerseys, poured out and ran to Cooper's office carrying signs. Around the same time, the Stone Brigade, now made of mostly Foxes fans, plus a few Cobras fans trying to keep Stone from their division rivals, arrived at the scene. Open fighting broke out in the parking lot.

A small group of Brigadiers broke Cooper's window and attempted to tranquilize him to delay the negotiations. They were intercepted by the Faithful and knocked unconscious. Some Faithful went to Scott Boras V's house and tied him up to prevent him from influencing the negotiations.

As Weinberg and Cooper reached an agreement and stood to shake hands, the Stone Brigade broke through the front door with a BorasBrandTM battering ram. The Faithful were able to fend them off long enough for Weinberg and Cooper to shake hands on the deal. Stone was reportedly happy to return to Melbourne.

I'm a little late but
1. The DH sucks and always will.
2. We got super off track so I will say I win my division, Paris wins Afroeuro, SD wins LA, and Ottawa wins NA. Those are Bob's PredictionsTM.

I don't know that there is anyway you are winning the IBL regardless of what happens.  I think you might be 6th best in the IBL at this point.
Not sure about that. I think I'm better than Barca and London, probably BF too (maybe?) Well, that's why we play the games I guess. Nobody would have guessed BF would win it last year, we'll have to see.

Good deal for Singapore. Wow.

463
PARIS, France: The Melbourne Meteors' catcher is Itri Jela. He hit .273 with 27 HRs last year. The Meteors don't need a catcher. So it should come as little surprise to passionate fans that tonight, they acquired star catcher Édouard Renaud from the Paris Fleur-de-Lis.

The Meteors gave up outfield prospect Wei-quo Lee, as well as shortstop prospects Candradipa Indrani and Asita Davuluri, in the deal. They also received $5 million in cash, to partially offset the cost of Renaud's $7m contract. This deal seems pretty fair, but the question that has analysts baffled is: Why did they do it?

Will Jela and Renaud split time at the catcher position? This seems like an expensive deal for a backup, so we expect Renaud will see at least some playing time. It seems unlikely that Jela will become the backup, so the only option left seems to be a platoon. Details to come.

EDIT: The Meteors have just finalized a trade sending their starting third baseman Aparahnaka Manjusha and pitching prospect Bartold Hultermans to the Singapore Merlions. In exchange, they receive third baseman Yoshimasa Kimura and a second round pick.

This deal seems to benefit the Meteors. Kimura is about as good as Manjusha, and the same age (only 25), giving him some room to develop and improve. Hultermans was drafted in the third round of the 2109 draft, so the Meteors actually got a better pick in return.

EDIT: The Meteors have just finalized a deal with the Northwest Emeralds. They send star catcher Itri Jela to the Emeralds, receiving pitcher Alfred Reeves, catcher Gennarino DaVinci, and a second-round pick. This makes clear the reason for the confusing Renaud trade. It seems that that deal was made in response to this deal with Northwest, which had been brewing for days. Renaud will become the Meteors' catcher, with DaVinci as backup. Reeves will fit into their rotation... somewhere.

For now, it seems that the Meteors' rotation has Kvana Datar, Abdeljilil Abedi, Imre Maxa, and Janardan Shreerang, along with Reeves. Their bullpen, however, is packed. There's not space to go into it here, and it has been chronicled in many other Times articles, but the Meteors have at least 14 pitchers who deserve a role in the rotation or bullpen, and only 11 to 12 spots. Tough decisions will need to be made.

WBA Times / Offseason Update: Meteors done with offseason
« on: October 03, 2017, 11:14:14 AM »
MELBOURNE, Australia: The Melbourne Meteors have reportedly finished with making moves this offseason. At a press conference, GM Bob Weinberg said "It's been a crazy offseason. We got Abedi, lost Dwijen, got Poe, got and lost Stone, tried for Kemboi and Karpat... there's nothing else we can do. I mean, maybe if something small comes up we would make a trade or something. But no more blockbusters, and no more free agents."

Right after this announcement, Weinberg left the room and attended the "Andy Stone Jersey Burning Ceremony". This was an event where every Meteors fan who purchased an Andy Stone jersey was given a different jersey of their choice for free. The Stone jerseys were then burnt in a huge pile. The event was filmed and sent to Stone and his agent.

WBA Times / The Andy Stone Saga: Stone signs with Black Forest
« on: October 02, 2017, 07:43:13 PM »
STUTTGART, Germany: Andy Stone has signed a contract with the Black Forest Foxes. The events leading up to his signing were quite impressive. Stone had been in Stuttgart for a few days, and had reportedly narrowed his field down to BF and Melbourne. Stone's agent Scott Boras V decided on BF early yesterday morning, and went to sign the contract without Stone's knowledge. Meteors fans had heard about this, and blocked the door to the Foxes GM's house. Members of the Stone Brigade, which at this point were mostly just Foxes fans, jumped out of the bushes and fired at the Meteors with custom BorasDart tranquilizer guns. Boras ran inside and gave Coop the signed contract.

Meteors GM Bob Weinberg held a press conference. He said "Listen, we made an offer, and he didn't take it. Best of luck to Black Forest." He was heard muttering under his breath "I hope that son of a {redacted} breaks his {redacted} arm."

I'd also like to know. Are these actual players in the WBA? And are they the only ones you tested?

Also, it seems like the values are getting higher. I think that's good.

Just to clarify. If we implement these changes, does that make those players' contracts change?

General WBA Discussion / Re: Commissioner Update on Financial Discussion
« on: October 02, 2017, 01:05:40 PM »
I like Huck's idea. Regarding contract adjustments, we have to see. I think we can't get into changing contracts around, because then where's the baseline? Do we adjust contracts from 2100? (Obviously, I'm exaggerating, but you take my point). Slow adjustments seem to make sense, but if this tool won't be ready for another season, that seems slow enough for me. It doesn't make a lot of sense to wait too long.

I think we should wait and see how testing goes. Then we can talk more about it.

WBA Times / The Andy Stone Saga: Meteors cooling off on Stone
« on: October 02, 2017, 11:07:24 AM »
MUNICH, Germany: In a shocking twist to the Andy Stone Saga, the Melbourne Meteors are reportedly not interested in Stone. This dramatic twist comes after the Meteors' spies consultants trailed Stone across the world for a few weeks. As Stone walked back from a meeting with the Black Forest Foxes, he rubbed his shoulder and winced. He was later seen purchasing ice from a convenience store. Melbourne apparently thinks he has once again hurt his shoulder. A representative for the team said "Look, we haven't decided anything. There's an offer on the table now, and if he takes it, great. But if he decides to negotiate, he might have to deal with us walking away."

I'm a little confused here. Would we, the GMs, still offer extensions in-game, and the tool tells us whether they're ok? Or would we have to plug a player into the tool to see what extension it gives them, and then accept it or not?

First, thanks a lot to Huck. He works SUPER HARD for this league, and we appreciate it.

I like this proposal. I'm not sure it solves the issue but when it's in alpha, we can test it out and see how it goes.

What exactly would the tool do? If it could get rid of bad extensions, I'm all for it.

The overall ratings aren't just every 5 between 20-80, they are every single number. At least they used to be, has that been corrected?

Yes. In 18 (and I think 17 too) there is an option for every number, or every 5 numbers.

Why exactly do we use star ratings for players? I am in another league with numbers 20-80 and I much prefer that. 2 different players with, say 4 stars can be very different in terms of skill. I think we should change to numbers.

I think hometown preference should be considered, but as I said earlier, it's a very slippery slope. Probably best to omit it, as Jake said.

I was in a league with something like a union, and I will never do it again. all decisions need to be made by the game engine.

2) free agents of a certain calibur go to auction if we have the tech to manage it

Interesting. What defines "a certain caliber"? Just star rating, or WAR, or what? And do we take hometown preference into consideration?

1) a "union", either algorithm or gm committee with utmost punishment for kickbacks

Definitely utmost punishment, probably kicked from the league. But if the union is made of rotating GMs, there would be less opportunity for conflict of interest.

I would absolutely volunteer to be on the union. It would probably make sense for me to only be part of the decisions on ABL teams, but whatever.

Guys I just caught up on this talk. I know this thread is lengthy, so I'll make this brief. We need a players' union or else our economy will stay fucked. The union would be a heterogeneous 4 person panel of owners. They would be responsible for veto-ing un-realistic contract extension. CBW is right that Chris Boone should have made it to FA. He gave up like $50m to sign an extension. The union needs to veto that. Once we start veto-ing the really bad extensions, the ones that would *never* happen irl, we will have more FA. Supply will increase. Demand will stay the same. Prices will become way more reasonable. We can hammer out specifics on this, but he union would basically use historical precedents to veto extensions. If a guy is making a crazy decision to avoid FA, then we veto it, he becomes a FA and the market stabilizes. This is a labor market, and it is fucked because the "workers" are making horrifically irrational decisions. If we fix that, we fix the market.

I like the idea of the union a lot. But instead of 4, it should be 8- 2 per division, preferably GMs of bad teams. Maybe it could rotate every year, using the 2 teams per division with the worst projected records.
I like the spirit of the union idea but don't like the execution in having a panel of GMs. Mainly because that can breed bad blood in the league and we've got a great group right now.
I don't think it would breed bad blood. Maybe a little, but I really like this group of GMs. We seem very strong and focused, and willing to help make the league better. And there are potential conflicts of interest... Maybe instead of my idea from above, we can have a different union for each contract? Something like: Not every extension is automatically reviewed, but anyone can bring up one that they think is unfair and tell Huck, who will make a union. It will be 4-6 GMs, none in the same division and only 1-2 in the same league, to minimize conflicts of interest.

Well, that's true. But how would you program that? That gets really super intricate. And if we get into a "home" thing, do we extend it to cover, say, someone from Haiti wanting to play for SD? or someone from British Columbia preferring Northwest over Ottawa, since it's closer? What about enemy countries? Do players from Russia not want to play for Washington?

I'm a bit of a devil's advocate here, but I think they're important points to make. And if you would just want to do a home country bonus, fine. But then what about countries like Brazil or the US, with multiple teams?

Hmm, ok. I guess you're not trustworthy enough.  ;D

A website would be interesting. My thought was that there wouldn't be any criteria except for highest bid. That way we get rid of the "play for a winner" mentality. I think that helps, because if great FAs only ever go to the best teams, how is anyone supposed to get better?

General WBA Discussion / Re: Financial issues I think we should address.
« on: September 29, 2017, 03:02:12 PM »
First of all, this is a great league with lots of active discussion, which I love. I'll just add a few points.

1. The contracts are a little ridiculous. If the rule is 1.4/1 WAR, Kemboi should have signed for 7m/year. Now obviously, you need to overpay a little. But 17.5/year is over 2x what he "deserved" based on WAR.

2. There are some pending FAs who take lowball offers. From my own experience, Magtanggol Baladad signed 6.2/year for 3, a few weeks before free agency. For a market that gave Falco Venema 12mil, he could have gotten much more.

3. Not exactly sure how I would do this, but the player personalities (or just plain stupidity) are sort of getting in the way a little. Maybe we could do something like: nah, none of my ideas work. I've started to write 3 or 4, but they never work. :(

4. Some really stupid ideas: We could let each team PM a bid for good FAs to Huck. He looks at everyone's and posts the highest bid on the site. Then each team has to bid again. Pros to this are that the players don't get to choose stupidly low offers. Cons are the same as pros, I get that players in the real MLB do that sometimes, but see point 5.

5. I've seen a few people cite "in the real MLB" as a reason for stuff, but I'm not sure that's valid. In some leagues, sure. But the point of the WBA is that it breaks from normal OOTP, which is just designed to simulate the MLB as exactly as possible. Custom financials, fewer teams, independent leagues with separate draft pools... we aren't like the real MLB, so that's not a good rationale for anything.

6. F*ck Andy Stone.

General WBA Discussion / Re: Financial issues I think we should address.
« on: September 29, 2017, 11:18:56 AM »
A few points.

1. I am generally in agreement about the lack of FAs, but frankly, I don't think it's a huge problem.  That makes the bidding more competitive.

2. Absolutely agree about the extensions. (Totally not biased here) It is ridiculous. OOTP logic seems to dictate "Well, I can have 14mil/5years in my hometown, or I could move to South America for less money and less time." Now, of course, there should be some people who reject the offers. But it happens way too frequently.

3. I'm not sure if this would work, but here's a suggestion. If a player declines an offer that they definitely should have accepted, they can be forced to accept it by Huck editing it onto them. "Definitely should have accepted" can be decided by Huck, or if he's not sure, by a committee of unbiased judges (for example, to decide on a Melbourne extension, the judges should all be from the ABL).

4. Players who straight-up refuse to negotiate should be forced to do something. My suggestion would be, a one-year contract at 30% higher than the previous year can be manually added if the GM agrees.

5. I would be willing to put some time in helping if necessary.

6. Maybe these suggestions should be retroactive? Not because of Stone, though. Definitely not.

WBA Times / Offseason Update: Poe out, Kemboi gone
« on: September 27, 2017, 08:14:34 PM »
MELBOURNE, Australia: The Melbourne Meteors' quest to find an ace has been dealt two more blows. Everyone knows the story of Andy Stone, and he hasn't signed yet. But one of the Meteors' targets in free agency, starting pitcher Kipchoge Kemboi, just signed a deal elsewhere. Worse- much worse- is the fact that Kemboi sighed with league rival Rome Generals, who now have one, maybe two, top-five pitchers as well as pretty much the whole team who won the IBL last season.

Potentially even worse is that ace Ronald Poe will require Tommy John surgery- again- and will not play until August of next year, effectively rendering him useless. Now, the Meteors are still a playoff team without him, and he will play in the playoffs barring another setback (which everyone knows can never happen, especially to him). But there's no doubt that this will hurt the Meteors significantly.

Where do the Meteors go from here? We at the WBA Times have gotten tired of repeating the same story over and over, so here's the same information in a different form. This is our best guess at the Meteors regular season rotation, whether they get Stone or not.

Stone Scenario
SP#1- Andy Stone
2- Kvana Datar or Abdeljilil Abedi
3- Abedi or Datar
4- Janardan Shreerang or Imre Maxa
5- Shreerang, Maxa, Nasih bin Kamil, or Bob Pérez

No-Stone Scenario
1-Datar/Abedi
2-Datar/Abedi
3-Shreerang/Maxa
4-Shreerang/Maxa
5-Pérez/bin Kamil

Of course, there are rumors that Melbourne is pursuing Los Angeles Stars ace Serhat Karpat. If they acquire him, that could- would- disrupt this graphic considerably. Honestly, Melbourne has either acquired, lost, or both a new pitcher almost every week since being knocked out of the playoffs. At this point, updating the "projected rotation" is basically useless, but we'll do it anyway.

WBA Times / The Andy Stone Saga: Bad blood between Stone and Karpat?
« on: September 27, 2017, 10:03:34 AM »
LOS ANGELES, California, United States: LA star pitcher Serhat Karpat is reportedly on the trading block. Karpat is signed to one more year at approximately $20m, and 2 more years at $11m. The Melbourne Meteors (as well as everyone else in the league) have expressed preliminary interest in Karpat, who went 15-5 with a 2.83 ERA last year.

Meteors GM Bob Weinberg flew to Los Angeles to meet with Karpat. Andy Stone was in Seattle at the time, visiting the Northwest Emeralds. The Stone Brigade, still devoted to keeping Stone as far away from Melbourne as possible, told Boras that Weinberg was talking to Karpat. Stone and Boras drove to LA. They arrived early, however, while Weinberg's meeting with Karpat was still in progress. As Karpat walked out of the room, Stone became furious, shouting "He's got a huge tag. You can't afford both of us!! Pick one or get none!" Karpat turned on Stone, yelling "It's no wonder he prefers me! My ERA was 2.83! Yours was, what, 3.50? Pathetic!" Stone fired back with "Well, old man, I can throw harder than you!"

Karpat and Stone agreed to a fastball competition. Weinberg procured his traveling radar gun to measure their speeds. Stone fired a fastball clocked at 95 mph. As Karpat went into his windup, he was struck in the arm with a tranquilizer dart. Boras was seen stuffing something into his briefcase rapidly. Karpat's arm immediately went numb, and the ball slipped from his hand. It was clocked at 8 mph.

Stone and Boras stormed out of the meeting without speaking to Weinberg. It looks like the Meteors are going to have to make a decision on who they prefer.

WBA Times / The Andy Stone Saga: Stone angry about Kemboi offer
« on: September 26, 2017, 06:04:21 AM »
PARIS, France: The Andy Stone Saga continues, and has taken a turn for the worse. That is, if you're a Melbourne Meteors fan.

The "Stone Brigade" now includes fans of Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio, Mumbai, Rome, and Black Forest. That's right, it actually grew. I've followed Andy Stone since the Mumbai deal, and here's part 2 of my story.

The day after free agency opened, Stone went to his Paris residence. He tried to send his agent, Scott Boras V, to South America to meet with teams, but Boras refused to leave him alone, and insisted that all interested teams come to Paris. Melbourne's delegation was first to come, since they had been following him all day. Boras tried to throw them out, but Stone insisted he wanted to hear them out. 100 to 200 members of the Stone Brigade entered the room with waterguns, and drenched the contract. Boras then activated his trapdoor, which sent the Melbourne reps out of the house by way of an underground tunnel. As the Stone Brigade blocked the doors and windows, representatives from all teams went inside one at a time. After they all left, an orange ninja dropped from the roof, slipped a piece of paper into Stone's pocket, and exited just as Boras turned around.

Stone was favorably impressed by the contract. However, when he learned that the Meteors had offered Kipchoge Kemboi a contract, he became angry. "I'm the only pitcher here! Kip ain't got nothin on me!" he shouted repeatedly. We suspect that the Stone Brigade leaked details of that confidential meeting.

I'm in Paris right now, in a restaurant about 2 blocks from Stone's apartment. I'm still following him and will post more details as they come.

MELBOURNE, Australia: The Melbourne Meteors have obtained starting pitcher Ronald Poe from the Ottawa Whiskey Jacks. In exchange, they send starting pitcher Yami Salehe, backup SS/2B Tan-ming Choe, and SS prospect Kiryl Vagramenko.

The Meteors completed another deal hours later, sending 1B prospect Haidar Yousafzai to the Paris Fleur-de-Lis in exchange for second baseman Bing-zhong Lao and a 4th round draft pick.

These deals seem to strengthen the Meteors' roster by a lot. Right now, their starting rotation includes Poe, Abdeljilil Abedi, and Kvana Datar. See many other articles by the Times discussing the remaining two spots.

Melbourne's starting lineup also got a slight boost. It looks like Lao will be stepping into the starting 2B position, while Endres Bäumer will be taking Choe's spot as the backup 2B and SS.

In effect, these two deals seem to have improved Melbourne's infield and starting rotation in exchange for two prospects. Melbourne even got a pick in the bargain. Only time will tell, but it looks like this was a good day for Melbourne.
Of course, the last time we said that, Andy Stone decided not to sign with Melbourne, so who knows.

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic: Andy Stone has filed for free agency. The Melbourne Meteors, who owned him for about two weeks, made an extreme effort to prevent him from signing, possibly even bending the law in the process. This is one reporter's story of the craziness.

Saturday, November 31, 2109, 10:00 AM
At ten o'clock in the morning Melbourne time (AEDT), Andy Stone went to a local café for some breakfast. He was met at the café by two agents for the Meteors, wearing bright orange suits. They pushed an envelope containing a contract at him, along with a pen. Stone glanced at the contract, then re-read it. He appeared to be considering the deal when his agent, Scott Boras V, burst in the door. Boras apparently puts GPS transmitters on his players. Boras ran in, read the contract, and carried it to the coffee machine, where he proceeded to drown it in coffee.

Saturday, November 31, 2109, 4:00 PM
At approximately 4 PM AEDT, Stone and Boras drove to the airport. Their target was a 7:35 flight from Melbourne to New York. From there, they would fly from NY to Santo Domingo to officially give the free agency papers to the league commissioner. After clearing security, Stone and Boras walked to their gate, where they waited for the flight. At approximately 6:41, Boras went to the bathroom. One man who had been waiting at the next gate immediately ran to Stone and shoved the contract and a pen in his hand. Stone took the pen and the contract, but two of Boras' minions assistants ran in and shredded it in a compact paper shredder.

Saturday, November 31, 2109, 7:00 PM
At 7:00, approximately 10,000 Meteors fans came to protest Stone's free agency. Most of them stayed outside so Stone would see them when the plane took off, but some of them went inside the airport to try to prevent Stone from leaving. At 7:04, as the plane was boarding, they rushed to the plane and formed a human barricade of approximately 200 people. Rumors that Meteors GM Bob Weinberg was in the crowd have not been confirmed. Apparently, Meteors officials had been distributing copies of Stone's contract to the protesters, so as the plane boarded, every person present pulled out a contract and a pen, and swarmed Stone. Boras had disappeared by this point, so Stone looked free to sign. But Boras then appeared with a steamroller and proceeded to drive towards the crowd, shouting "Don't think I won't run you over!" The crowd scattered immediately and Stone boarded the plane. It is not known how Boras got a steamroller into the airport, but the head of security is reportedly a Rome Generals fan.

Sunday, December 1, 2109, 7:00 AM
At about 7 AM New York time (EDT), Stone and Boras emerged from their hotel. They had planned a visit with the New York Empires, but they just announced a relocation and are currently in Ottawa. Stone wanted to do a little sightseeing before their 2:00 flight to Santo Domingo. Three orange-clad ninjas pulled Boras away and handed a contract to Stone. Boras then hit the ninjas with nunchucks and grabbed the contract, which he later burnt, and threw the ashes off of the Empire State Building.

When Boras and Stone got out of the airport in Santo Domingo, they were met with another large protest. Apparently, some Palmchats fans got fed up with management and switched loyalties. Meteors fans tried to stop Stone from leaving, but Boras got him out through a secret tunnel.

Sunday, December 1, 2109, 11:30 PM
Stone and Boras pulled up to the commissioner's house in Santo Domingo at 11:30, due to some unexpected difficulties renting a car from the Australian manager. When they emerged, they found multiple other agents and players, including Kipchoge Kemboi, outside his house. It was blocked by fans of many different teams. When Stone and Boras emerged, the Melbourne contingency booed loudly. They tried to block the way, but fans of Rome, Mumbai, Buenos Aires, and Sao Paulo, wearing their dark green "Stone Brigade" shirts, tackled the Meteors fans and cleared a path for Boras. The commissioner answered the door and took the papers. A blow dart fired by a Meteors fan at the commissioner was blocked by a member of the Stone Brigade, who later was treated at the hospital for amnesia. Stone's papers were deemed "all in order" and is now a free agent.

Marcus Comet

Marcus Comet followed Andy Stone around for three weeks. He is now flying to every meeting Stone has with every team.

... 84 wins?

Really? We just got better OOTP. Not sure how they came up with that. But I guess the IBL is strong this year.

Interesting article!! Hard to believe BA loses the division by 5... but I guess Zam really helps.

player depth is fairly week this offseason. The two major names are Kipchoge Kemboi and Andy Stone, Stone having been the center of late season drama between

Melbourne, Australia
Statement from Bob Weinberg, GM of the Melbourne Meteors

Melbourne did not wish to insult anyone. They do, however, look forward to watching the Bourbon Bears or whatever get trashed by Cheslav Zamorov and the Toucans.

Melbourne would also add that it's difficult to take someone seriously when they still haven't changed their logo after relocating.

Uh... why are all of Andy's minor teams in Florida? Something about when he took over the team?

Also, quick note. According to the Constitution of the WBA, all minor league teams must play in the same country as their parent. So Vancouver wouldn't actually be legal for NW.

Melbourne Meteors GM Bob Weinberg recently held a press conference to discuss Melbourne's path forward. The following is an edited transcript.

Jill Impact: So, Bob, thanks for coming here. Obviously, my first question is about Andy Stone.

Bob Weinberg: laughs Yeah, I sort of figured that.

Jill: Well, we all want to know, how are the negotiations going?

Bob: I still have hope, but I don't know why. He's made it very clear he isn't going to be signing.

Jill: What about in free agency?

Bob: Yeah. He said that we could try to make offers in free agency.

Phil Crater: Do you think he might get signed by anyone else??

Bob: Of course, he will get signed by someone. To answer the question I think you were really asking, he might re-sign with Mumbai, I don't know.

Phil: And if he does?

Bob: Well, that wouldn't be good. We basically would have traded Dwijen and Kitur for Abedi. I mean, picture that lineup with Dwijen, plus Stone. Jeez.

Marcus Comet: What about other teams? Who do you want him to go to?

Bob: Well, there's no good answer, other than Melbourne. I think I'd be happiest if he ended up on a bad team, but they wouldn't be likely to bid. So,
probably someone like Sao Paulo or Buenos Aires. Nowhere in the IBL. Though I would say that Rome and Mumbai are the most likely right now.

Marcus: Are you really mad at him?

Bob: No, of course not. I respect his decision to opt out.

Marcus: Are you just saying that so he signs with you?

Bob: Next question.

Jill: Moving on. Who do you see as your starting rotation?

Bob: Well, it's tough. Obviously Kvana and Abdel but the rest, I don't know. Andy if he signs. Beyond that, maybe Yami, Imre, or Nasih. I could see someone like Pérez or Juarez competing too.

Marcus: And your outfield?

Bob: Botol, Steph, and Gong.

Phil: What about Tsao and Celestino? You just got him, is he really gonna stay as a backup the whole season?

Bob: Nobody said the whole season. Those three are my Opening Day lineup,
but the other guys will have plenty of time to play. Maybe they can win a starting job.

Phil: And what's happening to Percy Oskam?

Bob: Probably sent to Triple A. He wasn't great last season but we see a lot of potential.

Marcus: Bob, who do you see winning the IBL?

Bob: Well, the Meteors. Seriously though, I have no idea. We are obviously very good. I could easily see Rome or Mumbai winning it all. Black Forest is the defending champs, can't count them out. London's rebuild is just about over. I really don't know.

Marcus: And who'll win the WBA?

Bob: Whoever wins the IBL.
