General WBA Discussion / Out of Action
« on: December 29, 2021, 09:05:52 PM »
Hello everyone,

This is Rich. Very early Monday morning we lost electricity and internet. Today PGE said power is not scheduled to be restored till Jan 10th. I believe it will be restored before 1/10, but at this time I'm stuck.
The snow has been quite an issue, making traveling dangerous. UntiI I get electricity and the internet, I won't be able to participate.
I have a snow plow guy coming tomorrow to dig us out. The weather looks like it's getting better for the next few days, so after I get dug out from the snow. I'll travel to Placerville to a Starbucks and update the game and resume my WBA play.
I am not dropping out. I'll be back as soon as I can.
Rich

Constitutional Amendments / Re: Contract Options and Incentives
« on: April 23, 2015, 06:16:40 PM »
I like Captaincoop's solution to having team options. 25% buyout seems fair and balanced and forces the GM to make a financial commitment for the purposes of having the right to an option. Good approach to incentives as well. Great thinking.

I want to draw a firmer line to the end of the award voting. I believe it should be mandatory. I'm in two leagues where there is all star, end of year award, and hall of fame voting. It is a league expectation. I didn't like the mandatory requirement at first. I thought it was "extra work" that was unnecessary. I just completed my 5th season in the both league and I enjoy the voting process a lot. The leagues I'm referring to use Statslab instead of OOTP OU. It only takes about 10 minutes or less to vote using Statslab and I don't think the process would be much different with OOTP OU. The leagues are 16 and 20 teams fictional leagues. In my 5 seasons in both leagues there has not been a GM replacement. Remarkable!

I see the voting process as a positive league culture building activity. Of course, other culture building activities are very important like good communication, consistent and timely simming (one of the leagues is a 7 days a week sim league), clear rules and expectations are a few that come to mind. Voting for awards is not much to ask or expect.

Just contributing my 2 cents!

Rich

Same result with the "could not load" message.

the acccountsdata_gms.dat file over wrote the existing file in the .lg/settings folder.

Off-Topic / Greetings form Paris
« on: April 18, 2015, 11:05:42 PM »
Actually this greeting post is from Northern California, but as the GM of the Paris Lightning I thought I would stay in character.  ;D

I guess I qualify as an OOTP veteran, but being a veteran doesn't mean I play the game well. OOTP can be a cruel game, but that is part of the challenge and fun.

Been playing OOTP since version 5 and my first online league was with OOTP 6.5.

Being raised in the SF Bay Area, I am a life long Giants and A's fan.

Happy to be a charter member of the WBA and hoping we will have a long and fun time playing what many call "fake baseball."

Good luck to all.

Rich

Constitutional Amendments / Re: Player Development Setting
« on: April 18, 2015, 08:44:58 AM »
I wholeheartedly support the settings Mr. Huck is proposing. Players will have longer career and Huck's setting provides a little boost to their development speed.

« on: April 17, 2015, 05:17:14 PM »
The settings captaincoop are solid. Personally, I like development to get a little boost.

Batter Dev. at 1.200 and Pitcher Dev. at 1.100 are settings I'm comfortable with. Teams that are rebuilding get a little boost timewise in the development of its spects: alway a good thing for those that have struggled with their teams or are taking over a franchise in poor shape.

captainc has presented settings i would be comfortable with.
