In our never-ending quest to find someone who can play shortstop passably while hitting well, we here in Melbourne may have been overzealous in trading for shortstops who are arguably major-league caliber. None of these players will ever be all-stars, but if you're looking for added depth, they are all potentially worthy backups.
Roberto Reyes - A good fielder, with a rating of 7 at SS and 8 at 3B, Reyes can also hit somewhat, with a contact rating of 6. Hit .340 in 21 games in Cairo, then .179 in 31 games in Melbourne; take a chance that he'll be closer to the .340 form as a backup or defensive sub for your team.
Nabibukhsh Taqi - Not the best hitter, but a good defender (9/5/9/7, 7 at SS) with good baserunning abilities (4/10/10). 5 contact vs RHP, could be used as a pinch-runner or defensive sub.
Martín Díaz - More of a FSSL type, Díaz won't hit many HRs but has good contact and avoid Ks. His strength is his defense - at 8/8/8/8, he can play any infield position, and at 6/7/6, he'd be a decent outfielder. Currently rated 9 at 2B, 7 at SS and 3B, and 4 at LF. Use as a utility backup infielder to free up roster space.
Fraser Reive - With a 6/8/6/7/8, Reive could probably start vs LHP. He's not the greatest fielder but is a decent baserunner, and could be a helpful platoon option at SS. Also plays 2B with a rating of 7.
Kolomon Eberhardt - He's a bad hitter, I'm not sugarcoating it. But at 9/10/10/10, he's one of the best fielders in the sim. Currently rated 10 at 2B and SS, Eberhardt could be a 10 at 3B too with some time in AAA, or could be a super-defensive sub immediately. If you lose games due to errors, bring Eberhardt in once you have a lead.
Dhuna Probal - Probably the best hitter on this list, at least vs RHP. 6/9/4/6/6 vs RHP, 9/9/5 baserunning, 6/5/8/6 defense. A good platoon option (don't start him against lefties).
Any of these players can be yours for a 4th, or any 2 for a 3rd (Probal/Reive would be a good platoon). Message me on Slack to negotiate.
