2108-09 Offseason Thread
« on: July 06, 2017, 08:06:46 PM »
This is the thread for all discussion of offseason activities during the 2108-2109 offseason.  This first post will be updated throughout the offseason and will also include links to other threads or amendment votes that come up during this time. We are preparing for the WBA's 10th season and also will be implementing the new arbitration system. Offseason sims will begin on Sunday 7/9 and we will then proceed with the usual DAILY sims during the offseason.

Sim to 3/26/2109 is complete. Next sim is Friday 8/4.

Offseason Sim Schedule:

Date - Sim Until - Activities before and during sim

Friday 8/4 - 4/2/2109 - End of spring training.
...
Sunday 8/6 - 4/8/2109 - FIRST REGULAR SEASON SIM. Have your rosters set up appropriately or suffer the wrath of click-happy Huckleberry or OOTP AI decisions. Do not forget to make sure all players on your active roster are also on your 40-man roster.

What's the current status for in-game finances?  Looks like I have -23 million in cash so I can't offer extensions, which seems a little off  :D

Okay, new files are going up now. If you are unable to get the game to import the new file you can always go here and then do it manually:

Just a reminder, in addition to announcing any arbitration releases you want to execute on the arbitration thread, I believe that you must make your decisions on any team option years prior to exporting for the next sim. If I recall correctly, no response means that you will execute the option year and be on the hook for the salary next season.

Free agent pool is noticeably deeper than the last two years. There is only really one star on the market, though, but it's going to take two or three seasons for teams to eat up their cash.

PRE-OFFSEASON ABL PREDICTED 2109 STANDINGS:

NORTH AMERICAN DIVISION
TeamWLPCTGB
Mexico City Aztecs87690.558-
Northwest Emeralds83730.5324
Washington Senators69870.44218
Los Angeles Stars65910.41722
New York City Empires60960.38527

LATIN AMERICAN DIVISION
TeamWLPCTGB
Buenos Aires Dolphins102540.654-
Sao Paulo Toucans87690.55815
Rio de Janeiro Jaguars86700.55116
Santo Domingo Palmchats76800.48726
Puerto Rico Coqui65910.41737

It looks like the Santo Domingo run may die as nobody can outrun Father Time forever. Will they start the rebuild or go for one last shot at glory? The predictions once again consider the North American Division to be significantly weaker next year.  In fact, the difference is pretty startling when you consider that Mexico City would only be considered 1-2 games stronger than Santo Domingo if they played the same schedule. With the real schedules included, they are predicted to finish a full 11 games better.

Of course this prediction is based on the right now, it doesn't consider injuries, etc. If some teams' younger players make big leaps or older players big declines then it could affect things pretty significantly.

Wow. They've got me significantly higher than I would've expected. I know I was unlucky with my pitching staff last year but that difference is pretty massive

These are mine, not OOTP's. And the ignoring injuries is pretty huge considering I've got Vargas as a 12+ WAR player if he plays a full season.

I also fixed the ABL standings above. Had a holdover calculation error; Northwest will be pleased with the correction.

Anyone else see how Sao Paulo and Rio had different records but the same games back?

Interesting, that would be quite a swing for Mexico City from last season with no major moves - does the model factor potential player development?

That was due to manual error when correcting the calculation error from the first time. I was too lazy to copy and paste the full table.

It's based on current ratings. I copy each team's ratings reports to a spreadsheet (it's actually called "write report to disk" in-game and that generates an html page you can copy) then run the analysis from there.

Previous season has no effect so it's possible you underperformed last year or that for some reason my system overvalues some players on your team.

Pretty sure Serhat Karpat is the best free agent I've ever seen in this league.

A free agent signed elsewhere despite my higher offer. There is definitely some other logic than financial only. It was Potla and he would have been in a rotation in Santo Domingo, much likelier to start in Rome.

Just went to the offer contract screen to see what Karpat would ask me for. Hahaha, it was over $23M per year.

I've done some tweaking to my prediction system, I'll post the updated predicted standings (which will include both the tweaks and offseason moves through last night) later today.

Just a heads up as we're getting closer to spring training. I am going to run real-time sims starting this season. StatsPlus has a pretty sweet page for that so I'm going to test everything, including the Slack integration, during spring training.

Yep, we will see how it goes. Not sure how running a week at a time will work, never been in a league that uses RTS.
