Player Opt-outs
« on: August 07, 2016, 11:49:04 AM »
The new patch allows me to turn off this contract option. Discuss below.

I would vote to leave them on. I don't see how including them could allow someone to gain an unfair advantage and we already have some contracts with them in the league. However if we seem to have enough votes to turn them off to warrant a vote then we will take one.

turn them off, the financial issue in OOTP are random enough...and unlike real life you cant convince them to stay.

I choose to abstain from the vote. Because I don't care.

So the argument to turn them off is that OOTP's player decision-making algorithm seems too random?  I can see that argument but I haven't seen enough player opt-out decisions yet to see how terrible they are in that case.  Has anyone else?

I've only completed one season so my experience is limited, but I had one player with an opt-out (starting pitcher Dalmr Mazi).  He had the option to stay and get paid $5.5 million, and I was stunned when he left.  It screwed up my already-screwed-up rotation, and it wasn't a great financial decision for him either, as I see that he just signed a 4-year deal at $4.6 million a year.  So from my limited experience it appears that when a player has an opt-out, he takes it, whether it makes any sense or not.  If that is indeed the case, then we should get rid of the opt-outs.  But of course other GMs may have had completely different experiences.

If I put up a poll and the league votes to turn off opt-outs, we would all want to leave existing opt-outs in place, right?

I don't feel strongly either way, but isn't offering an opt-out up to each manager? If you don't like them, just don't use them in contract negotiations.  What am i missing?

Personally, I think if we vote to eliminate opt-outs, we should wipe out the existing ones, too.  Or at least give each GM the option to have them wiped out.  A lot of us are new GMs; we inherited most of our long-term contracts.

No way I would agree to void existing opt outs.  I've steered clear of offering them, and I see no reason to amend existing contracts to void this feature.  If you want to turn them off going forward, I would be Ok with that, as at least we are all operating under the same rules and assumptions going forward
