MELBOURNE, Australia: The Melbourne Meteors have obtained starting pitcher
Ronald Poe from the Ottawa Whiskey Jacks. In exchange, they send starting pitcher
Yami Salehe, backup SS/2B
Tan-ming Choe, and SS prospect
Kiryl Vagramenko.
The Meteors completed another deal hours later, sending 1B prospect
Haidar Yousafzai to the Paris Fleur-de-Lis in exchange for second baseman
Bing-zhong Lao and a 4th round draft pick.
These deals seem to strengthen the Meteors' roster by a lot. Right now, their starting rotation includes Poe,
Abdeljilil Abedi, and
Kvana Datar. See many other articles by the Times discussing the remaining two spots.
Melbourne's starting lineup also got a slight boost. It looks like Lao will be stepping into the starting 2B position, while
Endres Bäumer will be taking Choe's spot as the backup 2B and SS.
In effect, these two deals seem to have improved Melbourne's infield and starting rotation in exchange for two prospects. Melbourne even got a pick in the bargain. Only time will tell, but it looks like this was a good day for Melbourne.
Of course, the last time we said that, Andy Stone decided not to sign with Melbourne, so who knows.Marcus Comet
