Santo Domingo
by Odin LocksRumors began flying this morning that
Los Angeles management has made
Serhat Karpat available in trade discussions. Karpat is of course one of the greatest pitchers in WBA history and while he's now 35 years old and working his way back from a torn meniscus, early signs indicate he is still a dominant #1 pitcher.
Karpat was 15-5 with a 2.83 ERA for the Stars before his injury last year and put up 5.7 WAR in only 3/4 of a season. Early reports from his rehab workouts indicate he has not lost anything off his legendary tailing fastball. There is some thought that his $20.7M salary for the 2110 season may scare some teams off, but he recently signed an extension through 2112 with the extra two years at only $11.5M per season.
It is this author's opinion that this makes Karpat an outstanding trade target for any WBA team that is looking to switch from rebuilding to win now mode in the 2110 season. These teams should have the cash reserves to be able to take on his 2110 salary and ride out the next two seasons even if he begins to decline as he approaches his late 30s. This will obviously be a story to keep an eye on.
