Hall of Fame Voting
« on: February 22, 2017, 11:54:48 AM »
What are everyone's thoughts on a good time to begin annual HoF voting? I always thought I'd start it after the 2109 season once ten seasons are completed. I was reminded of this recently when reviewing rosters and I noticed that the great Twinkletoes is beginning to decline and the sunset of his career is now in view.

By the way, it looks like Hall of Fame voting will have to be entered into OOTP at slightly different times based on this thread. And that the ABL and IBL Halls of Fame will be separate, which could lead to some interesting discussions down the road.

10 years seems reasonable to me.
Will players not be eligibile until after retired for a set number of years?
Frankly, I'm not a big fan of halls of fame, but I recognize the importance in the ootp world.

2109 makes sense.  I'd be okay with a waiting period before retirement and eligibility too, if that's what other league owners want.

I agree that 10 years is about right.

I don't think a waiting period makes sense in our league. Would probably help participation if players were eligible immediately after retirement, plus it's not like favoritism due to personally knowing the players is a factor.

But we can discuss the criteria for voting.

Minimum Years Since Retired
Maximum Years On Ballot
Minimum Hits
Minimum Average (minimum 5000 PAs)
Minimum Home Runs
Minimum Wins for Starting Pitchers
Maximum ERA (minimum 1000 IP)
Minimum Saves for Relievers

I'm thinking 0 (or 1, whatever I have to put) for years retired.

Maximum years on ballot I'm fine with using 10 which is the standard. If you can't make a case for your guy within that timeframe then he's toast (we may actually even go lower as we have about 4 seasons per real life year).

All the statistical stuff we can discuss and obviously need to pay attention to in terms of ABL and IBL production instead of just basing it on real life performances.  Beyond that it will obviously be a bunch of opinion as it's supposed to be.

i vote for 5 years on ballot max, 0 year retired required.
i don't think we need any minimum standards for stats.

That works for me, too.
