Santo Domingo
by Odin Locks

The rumored rebuild came with a vengeance today as the Santo Domingo front office finalized two major trades on the heels of the deal with Singapore last week.

Trade with Rome

In the first deal of the day, the Palmchats shipped superstars Zuleide Rainha and Pio Seixas to Rome in exchange for top pitching prospect Wei-kang Ping, veteran arm Roushdy Kefentse, outfielder Qalander Vallurupalli, and Rome's 1st round picks in both the 2110 and 2111 drafts. Media evaluations of the trade varied with some thinking the club had not gotten enough in return for the two stars. When we attempted to reach general manager Huck L. Berry for comment, we were told he was busy being hung in effigy and couldn't make it to the phone.

Trade with São Paulo

However, the day was not finished as late in the evening a second major trade was leaked to the press. And this one was no less spectacular as the team sent defending ABL Player of the Year and consecutive Triple Crown winner Cheslav Zamorov, veteran pitcher Devin Mata, AAA 1B Dimitrios Tsaregorodtsev, and bullpen member Matias Alavedra to São Paulo in return for prospects Flint Warren, Luis Fernandez, Gerardo Tamayo, veteran Prospero Calaa and the Toucans' 2110 1st and 5th round draft picks. There is a lot to untangle here and the final evaluation of who won this deal will likely come down to how well the Palmchats fare with the acquired draft picks. But in the immediate aftermath most talk was about the Toucans' 2110 starting lineup featuring both Zamorov and Player of the Year favorite Carlos Vargas. Some questioned Santo Domingo's willingness to trade Zamorov to a division rival, but sources inside the team indicate that the player expressed an interest in staying in the ABL and they felt they owed him the opportunity to do so.

More to Come?

There is actually word coming from inside the Santo Domingo team headquarters that the team is not quite done with significant moves. We will cover any further developments as they happen.
