The Mumbai front office has just emailed season ticket holders that the conman cometh.
Serhat "Conman" Karpat, wideley considered one of the greatest pitchers in WBA history, is on his way to Mumbai to lead the Cobras rotation. And that's not all. The Cobra private jet is making a short stop on the East coast of the USA to pick up Mumbai's other pitcher acquisition,
Andrés Ortíz. Mumbai manager APMP hopes that Karpat immediately takes Ortíz under his wing and mentors him during his transition to the IBL.
Little needs to be said about Karpat. Still going strong at 35 years of age, Karpat will be the highest paid player in Cobra history this year (and probably the next two years as well). Ortiz is a strong, durable righty with a 95 mph cutter and, like Karpat, a propensity to keep the ball on the ground. This will be vital at Cobra park, which fans around the IBL affectionately (and sometimes derisively) call "the launchpad."
Anything can happen in the WBA. But at this point, it's safe to assume that the Mumbai brass is probably done with the blockbusters. They may need to start digging in the couch cushions though. $20.7 million comes out to a lot of rupees.
