The Rome Generals got a superb performance from pitcher Vince Knowles, but the Puerto Rico Coqui still won the game, 4-3. Knowles was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 8 innings allowing 4 runs. The win brings the Coqui to 5-12, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.

Puerto Rico shortstop Devayukta Viral had a key at-bat for the Coqui in the bottom of the ninth inning. Facing right-hander Vince Knowles, Viral hit a sacrifice fly. It put Puerto Rico in front, 4-3. For the day, Viral was 3 for 3 with 3 singles.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Rome manager Rome Generals. "But we decided not to take it."
