The São Paulo Toucans called upon starter Rick Lopez, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Melbourne Meteors, 6-1. Lopez got the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 8 hits and walked 3 over 9 innings. Lopez allowed 1 run. The win brings the Toucans to 18-12, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
It could have been a different outcome for São Paulo, had it not been for Mike Torres, the 28-year old second baseman . Torres contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put São Paulo up, 3-0.
Lopez expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
