Toucans Come Up Short at Ottawa, 4-3
|
The Ottawa Whiskey Jacks topped the São Paulo Toucans, 4-3, in Fast Sim Side League action at Whiskey Jacks Ballpark. The standout performance belonged to Ottawa pitcher and Calgary, Canada, native Tommy Quigley. Quigley went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. His record improves to 8-2. Faruq Firdausi earned the save for Ottawa, his 10th of the year.
Vic Valenzuela, the Ottawa center fielder, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 4-1, Whiskey Jacks. For the game, Valenzuela went 2 for 4 with 2 singles.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Quigley said.
The triumph puts Ottawa at 30-24 for the season.
