The El Paso Thunderbirds picked up a win at Beefs Stadium, taking down the Chicago Beefs, 4-3, in 14 innings. On the mound for El Paso was right-hander Tien Dung Long. He played a central role in the triumph. The win went to John Flowers in relief, making him now 1-0. Kent Martin took the loss for Chicago. With the win, El Paso climbs to 5-6.
Kyle Middleton, who finished 2nd in the ABL in slugging percentage with .626 in 2145, had a direct impact on the outcome. Middleton contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put El Paso up, 4-3.
"It was terrific getting this win," Middleton said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
