The Detroit Blue Gills topped the El Paso Thunderbirds, 6-5, in Americas Baseball League action at Thunderdome. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Seoul, South Korea, native Chin Choi. Choi, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. The Thunderbirds fall to 5-8 and continue to sputter in the early going.

The Blue Gills got a big at-bat from right fielder Jesús Aguilera. For the game, Aguilera went 2-4 with 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave Detroit a 1-0 lead.
