Detroit third baseman Phil Young had a good game, even if his team did not. The Blue Gills dropped a 7-6 decision to El Paso at Thunderdome. Young hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The Blue Gills, now 4-10, continue their inauspicious start.

The game came to a climactic end in the bottom of the ninth. With El Paso trailing 6-4, Bahupatu Ranjitsinhji delivered the big blow, hitting a fastball from Branko Kuchek for a 3-run home run. Just like that, the Thunderbirds had a walk-off win.

"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Ranjitsinhji.
