The Detroit Blue Gills withstood an impressive performance by Puerto Rico second baseman Gabriel Mantalara to defeat the Coqui, 11-7, at Tokyo Ballpark. Mantalara hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Oliver Montoya got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. Detroit is now 10-5.

Roderyk Komorowski, who finished 5th in the ABL in OPS with .963 last year, chipped in a 2-run home run for Detroit in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.

"We've been playing some good baseball," Komorowski told the Detroit News. "We're aggressive and focused on what we're going to do on the field and getting it done."
