Black Rhinos Stun Meteors, 3-0
|
Nairobi Black Rhinos pitcher Amrus Mtembei was in fine form, leading his team past the Melbourne Meteors, 3-0. The winner was Mtembei. He threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Keitaro Ito. Earning his 4th save for Nairobi was Ayman bin Ishaq.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Darbha Gowd came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Melbourne pitcher Matt Gentry, he hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Nairobi on top, 2-0.
"Amrus was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Nairobi manager J Stell.
The Black Rhinos are off to a tough start, getting just their 6th win in 15 games.
