Black Rhinos Turn Back Rome, 3-1
|
The Nairobi Black Rhinos beat the Rome Generals, 3-1, at The Colosseum. Starting pitcher Amrus Mtembei was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Mtembei, now 5-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Boryenka Vohmin locked down his 4th save.
Nairobi won the game in part because of Mishago Wambugu. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Black Rhinos ahead, 2-0. For the game, Wambugu had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"Tough loss," said Rome manager Tx Horns. "But we'll learn from it."
The Generals, now 9-16, continue their inauspicious start.
