Toucans Improve to 16-11 with 6-3 Win
|
Rio de Janeiro first baseman Leo Brooks was sensational. He was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Sao Paulo beat the Jaguars, 6-3. Vicente Espinosa, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held the Jaguars to 3 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The loss lowers the Rio de Janeiro record to 13-14.
Sao Paulo third baseman Pancho Castillo contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 47th hit of the season and put the Toucans ahead, 5-3.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Sao Paulo manager Casey Blake DeWitt.
