Blue Gills Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Stars, 4-2
The Detroit Blue Gills earned a win at Tokyo Ballpark, knocking off the Los Angeles Stars, 4-2. On the bump for Detroit was right-hander Richard Phillips. He had a starring role in the triumph. Osman Sumbatashvili finished the game for Detroit and earned his 16th save. The 4th-place Stars now sit at 35-44.

Had Kyung-bae Choi not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Choi hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Blue Gills.

"Richard giving us the start that he did was huge," said Detroit manager El Weston.
