The El Paso Thunderbirds handed the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars a sound defeat, 11-3, at Thunderdome. Thao Trung, who finished 3rd in the ABL in OPS with .985 in 2143, was a main contributor to the win. He went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for El Paso. El Paso starter Gregor Finlater was credited with the win after throwing 53 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 6-5. El Paso is second in the Americas Baseball League North American Division with a record of 49-32.

Gianpaolo Belmondo had a big bases-clearing double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With El Paso leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from Chinh Tran-Dinh, who is tied for 8th in the ABL in complete games with 1, and swatted a double to right. It was his 24th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 5-1.

"This was one of those games you love to be a part of," said Trung.
