Blue Gills LF Pian goes 3-for-4 in Win
The Detroit Blue Gills took on the Chicago Beefs at Beefs Stadium.

The Detroit Blue Gills topped the Chicago Beefs, 7-5, with youngster Joy-shan Pian playing a key role. Pian went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Blue Gills in the win. The winner was Yoshinori Matsushita, who threw 92 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 10 hits.

With Detroit leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Pian hit a fastball from Bao-tian Li for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Blue Gills ahead, 6-1.

"It wasn't our best performance," said Pian, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."

Even with the win, the Blue Gills have a dismal 11-27 record.
