Blue Gills Take Nail-Biter Over Stars
The Detroit Blue Gills wiggled past the Los Angeles Stars, 5-4, in 16 innings at Tokyo Ballpark. The win was highlighted by the performance of Detroit pitcher Leo Morris. Malo Thiery, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The 4th-place Stars have lost 4 consecutive games.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 16th inning, when Detroit catcher Min-zhong Yao, facing Franz Bietak, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Blue Gills the 5-4 win.

"Our team showed some gumption," said Morris. "I like it."
