Sao Paulo Mettle Tested in Tight 6-5 Win
|
Led by Larry White, the Sao Paulo Toucans defeated the Puerto Rico Coqui, 6-5, in 10 innings. White, a native of Lindon, Utah, was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Toucans. Sao Paulo pitcher Xing-hua Hua got the win. He's now 2-3. Igoryok Faktorovich was tagged with the loss. At 65-51, Sao Paulo is in third place in the Americas Baseball League Latin American Division.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the tenth. With Sao Paulo trailing 5-4, White jumped on a fastball from 33-year old right-handed pitcher Igoryok Faktorovich and hit a 2-run home run to center. With one swing, the Toucans had a walk-off win.
"Baseball is such a beautiful game," said White. "Anything can happen on any night, and that's why you don't dwell on what happened yesterday. Just look forward and trust you're going to have positive results."
