Cairo Upended by Tokyo, 5-2
|
At Fitzies Stadium, the Cairo Pharaohs and Tokyo Fitzies were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The Cairo Pharaohs could not turn a fine performance from left fielder Rickey Baker into a win. Instead, the Tokyo Fitzies prevailed, 5-2. Baker went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Onfrio Moro snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-0 on the season. Norbert Armelini suffered the loss. Alastair Bacon closed out the game, earning his 26th save.
Jaromir Cermaka hit a 2-run double off Norbert Armelini in the bottom of the fifth, which put the Fitzies in front, 4-2. In addition to the double, Cermaka had 1 single, while going 2 for 4.
Cermaka called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
At 51-68, the Fitzies claim last place in the Intercontinental Baseball League Asian Division.
