Toucans Handle Jaguars, Grab 2-1 Win
|
Hurler Mariano Segura gave the Sao Paulo Toucans a solid start. The native of Toa Baja, Bayamón helped his team defeat the Rio de Janeiro Jaguars, 2-1, at Rio de Janeiro Grounds. Segura yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4. His record improves to 11-10. Xing-hua Hua earned his 22nd save in 24 tries.
Sao Paulo used a clutch at-bat from Darbha Gowd to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Toucans ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Tough loss," said Rio de Janeiro manager Echo 127. "Tough one to swallow."
Today's win puts Sao Paulo at 68-52, while Rio de Janeiro falls to 70-50.
