Puerto Rico pitcher Britt Leonard did his part in helping his team beat the El Paso Thunderbirds, 1-0. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 7.1 innings, Leonard surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Jorge Ocampo converted his 34th save in 35 tries.
Lu-po-teh Guao contributed to the Coqui cause with a productive at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly, giving Puerto Rico the lead.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Guao, "and go after the next one."
The win elevated the Coqui to 63-57.
