Mexico City 74-46 After Beating Dolphins
|
El Estadio Latinoamericano hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
Havana pitcher Tony Gutiérrez gave the Aztecs all they could handle, but in the end, Mexico City left El Estadio Latinoamericano with a win, 1-0. Gutiérrez allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 6 innings. With the win, the Aztecs improved to 74-46.
The Dolphins had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Aztecs going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Ángel Santos came to the plate. Santos hit a solo home run on a 1-1 slider from Havana hurler Tony Gutiérrez. It was Santos's 27th home run of the year.
"Wins don't come easy," Santos told the Mexico City Chronicle. "They don't just hand them out like lollipops."
