Thunderbirds Top Beefs in Extras, 5-4
|
The El Paso Thunderbirds faced a tough opponent in Chicago pitcher Patrick Widhoezl, but found a way to pull out the victory at Beefs Stadium by a final score of 5-4 in 10 innings. Widhoezl went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. Tien Dung Long picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, while walking 7 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 17-7. Timothy Adamczak got credit for the save for El Paso. It was his 31st of the year.
El Paso used the timely hitting of Gianpaolo Belmondo to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Thunderbirds on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Belmondo called getting the win a "good ending to a long game."
The Thunderbirds improved their record to 79-44 by beating Chicago.
