The Beijing Emperors spoiled a good performance by Melbourne left fielder Edgardo Román, bumping off Melbourne, 6-5, at Meteor Crater. Román went 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Tom Davis picked up the save, his 16th. After today's action, Beijing sits at 70-55; Melbourne slips to 58-67.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Berde Lund? The top prospect Lund stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put Beijing up, 6-3. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
