Stars Earn 5-2 Home Win
|
The Los Angeles Stars picked up a win at Field of the Stars, topping the El Paso Thunderbirds, 5-2. On the mound for Los Angeles was right-hander Roger Oldford. He played a principal role in the triumph. Oldford yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. His record improves to 11-9. Clodio Castanhedo got the save, his 31st in 33 chances.
The Stars got an important contribution from third baseman Liangde Song, who in the bottom of the sixth hit a curveball to center for a 2-run double. It was his 3rd double of the season and put the Stars ahead, 4-0.
"Roger gets on the mound and he competes and that's what you want," said Los Angeles manager Alex G.
The 4th-place Stars improved to 57-73.
