Los Angeles wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Yoshitoshi Murata, falling to the Chicago Beefs, 5-4. Murata threw 7.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was Chicago reliever Matt Gentry, now 4-1. The loser was Salif Mtangulizi. Alonso Soto was credited with the save, his 14th in 15 tries.

Chicago used the clutch hitting of Felipe Jiménez to capture the win. The catcher drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Beefs ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"We did enough to win," said Jiménez.

The second-place Beefs have a record of 65-66.
