Hurler Enreecko Vergara gave the Puerto Rico Coqui a solid start. The native of Matti, Southern Mindanao helped his team defeat the Detroit Blue Gills, 3-2, at Ballpark of San Juan. Chih-hsiung Chiang earned his 27th save in 30 chances.
Vergara scattered 4 hits over 8 innings for the Coqui. With the win, Vergara goes to 9-11 on the year with 67 strikeouts.
"Enreecko throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Puerto Rico manager Kir By.
The Coqui raised their record to 50-82.
