Voyageurs Suffer 6-2 Setback
|
A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Melbourne Meteors and Oslo Voyageurs.
Afzul Khan powered the Melbourne Meteors to a win over the Oslo Voyageurs. The final score was 6-2. The Melbourne first baseman, who finished 5th in the IBL in slugging percentage with .524 in 2143, was a force to be reckoned with. He banged out 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Melbourne pitcher Ismael Mata got the win. He's now 4-4. Eric Lamb was tagged with the loss.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Pavla Elovsky came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Oslo pitcher Eric Lamb, he hit a first pitch forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Melbourne on top, 3-2.
Elovsky told a Melbourne Times reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The Meteors go to 61-72, putting them 4th in the Intercontinental Baseball League Asian Division.
