Detroit pitcher Yoshinori Matsushita had a large part in his team subduing the Chicago Beefs, 2-0. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. In 8 innings, Matsushita surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 5. He allowed no runs. Ragnar Arnfeldt nailed down his 11th save.
Kyung-bae Choi hit a run-scoring triple off Alois Camber in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Blue Gills in front, 1-0. Choi had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 3.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Detroit manager C Schu. "That's what Yoshinori is right now."
The 4th-place Blue Gills hiked their record to 19-22.
