Emperors Handle Generals, Grab 7-4 Win
|
The Beijing Emperors defeated the Rome Generals, 7-4, at The Bird's Nest. Beijing was led by 29-year old right fielder Ángel Santos, who was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Gonzalo Valdés, the winner, goes to 7-2. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and no strikeouts over 8 innings. Lúcio Caso nailed down his 5th save.
Madidu Madraa had a big grand slam home run for the Emperors in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Beijing leading 3-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a sinker from Jacques De Sores, who is a five-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Emperors on top, 7-1.
"Been a rough stretch for us," said Rome manager Tx Horns.
Beijing is now 77-61, while Rome is 74-64.
