Meteors Earn Late 3-2 Win
|
The inspired effort of Daegu first baseman Pie-qi Liao was not enough to prevent a loss, 3-2, to the Melbourne Meteors. Liao went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Melbourne reliever Yoichi Matsumoto was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Luis Ruíz. Lynn Moore notched his 2nd save of the season.
Gualter Bonito, who finished 4th in the IBL in batting average with .339 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Bonito contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Melbourne up, 2-1.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Daegu manager R Beadle. "But we decided not to take it."
Their 23-21 record puts the Meteors third in the Intercontinental Baseball League Asian Division.
