Fitzies Pin 3-2 Loss on Melbourne
|
Tokyo Fitzies starter Xing-hua Hua was on his game, helping his team beat the Melbourne Meteors, 3-2. The win was credited to 23-year old right-handed pitcher Johan Combes in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Mahmood Hashemi took the loss. Sunil Chander was called on to finish, recording his 9th save.
The Meteors had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Fitzies going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the top prospect Arun Virinchi came to the plate. Virinchi hit a solo home run on a 1-0 fastball from Melbourne hurler Mahmood Hashemi. It was Virinchi's 10th home run of the year.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Tokyo manager Meeks 17.
The Fitzies sit in last place in the Intercontinental Baseball League Asian Division with a record of 19-27.
