The Rome Generals picked up a win at The Colosseum, downing the Nairobi Black Rhinos, 3-2. On the mound for Rome was right-hander Ramachandra Ghandi, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winning pitcher was Ghandi, now 1-0. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 5. With the loss, Nairobi falls to 3-2.
Jean-Michel Martinez had a big solo home run for the Generals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Rome leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Amrus Mtembei and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Generals on top, 3-1.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Ghandi said.
