Alcova, Thunderbirds March to 10-3 Victory
The El Paso Thunderbirds beat the Detroit Blue Gills, 10-3, at Thunderdome. El Paso second baseman Johan Alcova banged out 2 singles and 2 doubles, while driving in 2 runs. El Paso pitcher Tien Dung Long earned the win, hiking his record to 5-4. Kalyanasarman Selvam suffered the loss. The Thunderbirds, at 24-28, sit in third place in the Americas Baseball League North American Division.

Gianpaolo Belmondo had a big 2-run double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With El Paso leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Kalyanasarman Selvam and swatted a double to right. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 5-2.

"It's always fun to score a lot of runs," said Alcova.
