Thunderbirds Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Dolphins, 5-1
|
The rain did not keep El Paso and Havana from finishing their game.
The Havana Dolphins got a sterling performance from pitcher Sigit Pane, but the El Paso Thunderbirds still prevailed, 5-1. Pane threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The Thunderbirds now own a record of 26-31.
El Paso used the timely hitting of Maresuke Nishikawa to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Thunderbirds on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"That's how you're going to be successful," said Thunderbirds manager AP MP. "It starts with pitching and it will always be pitching."
