Meteors Defeat Generals, 7-5
|
The Melbourne Meteors clipped the Rome Generals, 7-5, in 10 innings at The Colosseum. The standout performance belonged to Melbourne pitcher and Holguín, Cuba, native Cipriano Sánchez. Matt Gentry, credited with the win in relief, is now 3-0. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. Melbourne is now 32-29.
Melbourne used the timely hitting of Norbert Hogervorst to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Meteors on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"There's no quit in this team," said Meteors manager Bob Meteors.
