Jaguars Edge Sao Paulo in Pitching Duel
|
Rio de Janeiro Grounds hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Jaguars faced a stiff challenge from Sao Paulo pitcher Miguel Salazar, but persevered to claim a win at Rio de Janeiro Grounds. The final score was 1-0. Salazar went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. Dodek Wolotka claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record stands at 4-0. Félix Soto earned save number 19 this season.
The Jaguars got a big at-bat from right fielder Labeeb bin Hussein. For the game, bin Hussein was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Rio de Janeiro a 1-0 lead.
"Our pitching was the difference tonight," bin Hussein said.
The Jaguars win now puts them at 43-25.
