Meteors Paste Fitzies, 13-2
|
The Melbourne Meteors easily defeated the Tokyo Fitzies, 13-2, at Gitche Gumee Stadium, with catcher Emílio Hernández a main contributor to the win. He went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for Melbourne. Quinton Ayala, who went 6.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 1-0. With their winning streak at 4, the Meteors have raced to a strong start this season.
Hernández contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Melbourne in the top of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Hernández took a circle change from Anuhlada Phadkar and stroked the double to right. His 1st double of the season allowed the Meteors to leap in front, 3-1.
"You can't sugarcoat this one," said Tokyo manager Meeks 17. "They pounded us."
