Emperors Handed 4-1 Loss by Tokyo
|
The Tokyo Fitzies knocked off the Beijing Emperors, 4-1, in Intercontinental Baseball League action at Gitche Gumee Stadium. Tokyo pitcher and Colima, Costa Rica, native Jesús Flores had an outstanding performance. Flores got the win, improving to 6-9. He gave up 7 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Sunil Chander earned the save for Tokyo, his 16th.
The Emperors had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Fitzies going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old catcher Rio Stace came to the plate. Stace hit a 2-run home run on a full count fastball from Beijing hurler Guo-fang Ming. It was Stace's 11th home run of the year.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Tokyo skipper Meeks 17. "I can't complain."
Tokyo is now 32-38, Beijing 41-29.
