Bonito Excels in 7-4 Melbourne Win
|
The Melbourne Meteors trumped the Karachi Falcons, 7-4, at Muhammad Ali Jinnah Stadium. Melbourne right fielder Gualter Bonito was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Cipriano Sánchez, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-2. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Wendel Lippelt sewed up the save, his 4th.
Melbourne used a well-timed hit by José Hernández to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Meteors ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"They had a good approach," Karachi skipper Slu Baseball said of the opposition. "Hats off to them."
The Meteors saw their win-loss record go to 34-38. At the same time, the Falcons fell to 37-35.
