The Melbourne Meteors defeated the Tokyo Fitzies, 4-2, at Gitche Gumee Stadium. Sharafat Mir was a standout performer for Melbourne. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 1 run he scored and 2 he knocked in. Melbourne reliever Alastair Bacon picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Guo-feng Lee absorbed the loss. Ismael Mata closed out the game, earning his 6th save.

Pavla Elovsky, who finished 2nd in the IBL in hits with 207 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Elovsky contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Melbourne up, 3-2.

Melbourne manager Bob Meteors commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
