The Melbourne Meteors eked out a 3-2 win versus the Tokyo Fitzies at Gitche Gumee Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Borya Jevakhov. He was terrific. Max Schmalzl, who is tied for 5th in the IBL in holds with 5, picked up the win in relief. Anuhlada Phadkar took the loss for Tokyo. The Fitzies, at 25-49, have lost 4 straight games.

Pavla Elovsky, who finished 3rd in the IBL in batting average with .327 last year, had a direct impact on the outcome. Elovsky contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Melbourne up, 3-2.

After the game, Melbourne manager Bob Meteors applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
