Coqui Get Dramatic 3-1 Triumph
|
The Puerto Rico Coqui, despite a fine performance by Rio de Janeiro pitcher José Salazar, grabbed a 3-1 win in 10 innings at Ballpark of San Juan. Salazar allowed no runs over 5 innings. The second-place Jaguars dropped to 48-28.
Puerto Rico got a jolt from Ndungu Njoka. The second baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it brought the house down.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Puerto Rico manager Kir By said.
