In a low-scoring tilt between the Beijing Emperors and the Melbourne Meteors, Guo-fang Ming, who finished 3rd in the IBL in saves with 35 last year, was the difference-maker. The Beijing right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. The winner was Ming. He threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Keitaro Ito. The win brings the Emperors to 7-3, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
Beijing used the hitting of Abdul-Wahhab bin Idris to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Emperors on top, 2-0. For the game, bin Idris had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Ming.
